Cymbeline

  1. 1 Enter Imogen and Pisanio.
  2. 2 IMOGEN.
  3. 3 I would thou grew’st unto the shores o’ th’ haven,
  4. 4 And questioned’st every sail; if he should write,
  5. 5 And I not have it, ’twere a paper lost,
  6. 6 As offer’d mercy is. What was the last
  7. 7 That he spake to thee?
  8. 8 PISANIO.
  9. 9 It was: his queen, his queen!
  10. 10 IMOGEN.
  11. 11 Then wav’d his handkerchief?
  12. 12 PISANIO.
  13. 13 And kiss’d it, madam.
  14. 14 IMOGEN.
  15. 15 Senseless linen, happier therein than I!
  16. 16 And that was all?
  17. 17 PISANIO.
  18. 18 No, madam; for so long
  19. 19 As he could make me with his eye, or ear
  20. 20 Distinguish him from others, he did keep
  21. 21 The deck, with glove, or hat, or handkerchief,
  22. 22 Still waving, as the fits and stirs of’s mind
  23. 23 Could best express how slow his soul sail’d on,
  24. 24 How swift his ship.
  25. 25 IMOGEN.
  26. 26 Thou shouldst have made him
  27. 27 As little as a crow, or less, ere left
  28. 28 To after-eye him.
  29. 29 PISANIO.
  30. 30 Madam, so I did.
  31. 31 IMOGEN.
  32. 32 I would have broke mine eyestrings, crack’d them but
  33. 33 To look upon him, till the diminution
  34. 34 Of space had pointed him sharp as my needle;
  35. 35 Nay, followed him till he had melted from
  36. 36 The smallness of a gnat to air, and then
  37. 37 Have turn’d mine eye and wept. But, good Pisanio,
  38. 38 When shall we hear from him?
  39. 39 PISANIO.
  40. 40 Be assur’d, madam,
  41. 41 With his next vantage.
  42. 42 IMOGEN.
  43. 43 I did not take my leave of him, but had
  44. 44 Most pretty things to say. Ere I could tell him
  45. 45 How I would think on him at certain hours
  46. 46 Such thoughts and such; or I could make him swear
  47. 47 The shes of Italy should not betray
  48. 48 Mine interest and his honour; or have charg’d him,
  49. 49 At the sixth hour of morn, at noon, at midnight,
  50. 50 T’ encounter me with orisons, for then
  51. 51 I am in heaven for him; or ere I could
  52. 52 Give him that parting kiss which I had set
  53. 53 Betwixt two charming words, comes in my father,
  54. 54 And like the tyrannous breathing of the north
  55. 55 Shakes all our buds from growing.
  56. 56 Enter a Lady.
  57. 57 LADY.
  58. 58 The Queen, madam,
  59. 59 Desires your Highness’ company.
  60. 60 IMOGEN.
  61. 61 Those things I bid you do, get them dispatch’d.
  62. 62 I will attend the Queen.
  63. 63 PISANIO.
  64. 64 Madam, I shall.
  65. 65 [_Exeunt._]
