- 1 Enter Bolingbroke, York, Northumberland, Harry Percy, Willoughby,
- 2 Ross; Officers behind, with Bushy and Green, prisoners.
- 3 BOLINGBROKE.
- 4 Bring forth these men.
- 5 Bushy and Green, I will not vex your souls—
- 6 Since presently your souls must part your bodies—
- 7 With too much urging your pernicious lives,
- 8 For ’twere no charity; yet to wash your blood
- 9 From off my hands, here in the view of men
- 10 I will unfold some causes of your deaths:
- 11 You have misled a prince, a royal king,
- 12 A happy gentleman in blood and lineaments,
- 13 By you unhappied and disfigured clean.
- 14 You have in manner with your sinful hours
- 15 Made a divorce betwixt his queen and him,
- 16 Broke the possession of a royal bed,
- 17 And stained the beauty of a fair queen’s cheeks
- 18 With tears drawn from her eyes by your foul wrongs.
- 19 Myself, a prince by fortune of my birth,
- 20 Near to the King in blood, and near in love
- 21 Till you did make him misinterpret me,
- 22 Have stooped my neck under your injuries
- 23 And sighed my English breath in foreign clouds,
- 24 Eating the bitter bread of banishment,
- 25 Whilst you have fed upon my signories,
- 26 Disparked my parks and felled my forest woods,
- 27 From my own windows torn my household coat,
- 28 Rased out my imprese, leaving me no sign
- 29 Save men’s opinions and my living blood
- 30 To show the world I am a gentleman.
- 31 This and much more, much more than twice all this,
- 32 Condemns you to the death. See them delivered over
- 33 To execution and the hand of death.
- 34 BUSHY.
- 35 More welcome is the stroke of death to me
- 36 Than Bolingbroke to England. Lords, farewell.
- 37 GREEN.
- 38 My comfort is that heaven will take our souls
- 39 And plague injustice with the pains of hell.
- 40 BOLINGBROKE.
- 41 My Lord Northumberland, see them dispatched.
- 42 [_Exeunt Northumberland and Others, with Bushy and Green._]
- 43 Uncle, you say the Queen is at your house;
- 44 For God’s sake, fairly let her be entreated.
- 45 Tell her I send to her my kind commends;
- 46 Take special care my greetings be delivered.
- 47 YORK.
- 48 A gentleman of mine I have dispatched
- 49 With letters of your love to her at large.
- 50 BOLINGBROKE.
- 51 Thanks, gentle uncle. Come, lords, away,
- 52 To fight with Glendower and his complices.
- 53 A while to work, and after holiday.
- 54 [_Exeunt._]
