- 1 Enter Richmond, Oxford, Blunt, Herbert, and others, with drum and
- 2 colours.
- 3 RICHMOND.
- 4 Fellows in arms, and my most loving friends,
- 5 Bruised underneath the yoke of tyranny,
- 6 Thus far into the bowels of the land
- 7 Have we marched on without impediment;
- 8 And here receive we from our father Stanley
- 9 Lines of fair comfort and encouragement.
- 10 The wretched, bloody, and usurping boar,
- 11 That spoiled your summer fields and fruitful vines,
- 12 Swills your warm blood like wash, and makes his trough
- 13 In your embowelled bosoms—this foul swine
- 14 Is now even in the centre of this isle,
- 15 Near to the town of Leicester, as we learn.
- 16 From Tamworth thither is but one day’s march.
- 17 In God’s name, cheerly on, courageous friends,
- 18 To reap the harvest of perpetual peace
- 19 By this one bloody trial of sharp war.
- 20 OXFORD.
- 21 Every man’s conscience is a thousand men,
- 22 To fight against that guilty homicide.
- 23 HERBERT.
- 24 I doubt not but his friends will turn to us.
- 25 BLUNT.
- 26 He hath no friends but what are friends for fear,
- 27 Which in his dearest need will fly from him.
- 28 RICHMOND.
- 29 All for our vantage. Then in God’s name, march.
- 30 True hope is swift, and flies with swallow’s wings;
- 31 Kings it makes gods, and meaner creatures kings.
- 32 [_Exeunt._]
