The First Part Of Henry The Sixth

  1. 1 Flourish. Enter on the walls La Pucelle, Charles, Reignier, Alençon and
  2. 2 Soldiers.
  3. 3 PUCELLE.
  4. 4 Advance our waving colours on the walls;
  5. 5 Rescued is Orleans from the English.
  6. 6 Thus Joan la Pucelle hath perform’d her word.
  7. 7 CHARLES.
  8. 8 Divinest creature, Astraea’s daughter,
  9. 9 How shall I honour thee for this success?
  10. 10 Thy promises are like Adonis’ gardens
  11. 11 That one day bloom’d and fruitful were the next.
  12. 12 France, triumph in thy glorious prophetess!
  13. 13 Recover’d is the town of Orleans.
  14. 14 More blessed hap did ne’er befall our state.
  15. 15 REIGNIER.
  16. 16 Why ring not bells aloud throughout the town?
  17. 17 Dauphin, command the citizens make bonfires
  18. 18 And feast and banquet in the open streets
  19. 19 To celebrate the joy that God hath given us.
  20. 20 ALENÇON.
  21. 21 All France will be replete with mirth and joy
  22. 22 When they shall hear how we have play’d the men.
  23. 23 CHARLES.
  24. 24 ’Tis Joan, not we, by whom the day is won;
  25. 25 For which I will divide my crown with her,
  26. 26 And all the priests and friars in my realm
  27. 27 Shall in procession sing her endless praise.
  28. 28 A statelier pyramis to her I’ll rear
  29. 29 Than Rhodope’s of Memphis ever was;
  30. 30 In memory of her when she is dead,
  31. 31 Her ashes, in an urn more precious
  32. 32 Than the rich-jewel’d coffer of Darius,
  33. 33 Transported shall be at high festivals
  34. 34 Before the kings and queens of France.
  35. 35 No longer on Saint Denis will we cry,
  36. 36 But Joan la Pucelle shall be France’s saint.
  37. 37 Come in, and let us banquet royally
  38. 38 After this golden day of victory.
  39. 39 [_Flourish. Exeunt._]
