← Back to browse The Tragedy Of Titus Andronicus
- 1 Enter Titus Andronicus and his three sons, and Marcus, making a noise
- 2 with hounds and horns.
- 3 TITUS.
- 4 The hunt is up, the morn is bright and grey,
- 5 The fields are fragrant, and the woods are green.
- 6 Uncouple here, and let us make a bay,
- 7 And wake the emperor and his lovely bride,
- 8 And rouse the prince, and ring a hunter’s peal,
- 9 That all the court may echo with the noise.
- 10 Sons, let it be your charge, as it is ours,
- 11 To attend the emperor’s person carefully.
- 12 I have been troubled in my sleep this night,
- 13 But dawning day new comfort hath inspired.
- 14 Here a cry of hounds, and wind horns in a peal. Then enter Saturninus,
- 15 Tamora, Bassianus, Lavinia, Chiron, Demetrius, and their Attendants.
- 16 Many good morrows to your majesty;
- 17 Madam, to you as many and as good.
- 18 I promised your grace a hunter’s peal.
- 19 SATURNINUS.
- 20 And you have rung it lustily, my lords;
- 21 Somewhat too early for new-married ladies.
- 22 BASSIANUS.
- 23 Lavinia, how say you?
- 24 LAVINIA.
- 25 I say no;
- 26 I have been broad awake two hours and more.
- 27 SATURNINUS.
- 28 Come on then; horse and chariots let us have,
- 29 And to our sport. [_To Tamora_.] Madam, now shall ye see
- 30 Our Roman hunting.
- 31 MARCUS.
- 32 I have dogs, my lord,
- 33 Will rouse the proudest panther in the chase,
- 34 And climb the highest promontory top.
- 35 TITUS.
- 36 And I have horse will follow where the game
- 37 Makes way, and run like swallows o’er the plain.
- 38 DEMETRIUS.
- 39 Chiron, we hunt not, we, with horse nor hound,
- 40 But hope to pluck a dainty doe to ground.
- 41 [_Exeunt._]
